What happens when you take a 40-foot pool and add a 40-foot dock plus some of the best canine athletes around? Dockdogs!!!
The fastest canine performance sport in the country came to the Kennel Shop, Scarborough for a weekend of high-flying, dock-jumping action. A little rain, a lot of sun, and a lot of fun were had by all!
Friday looked a little doubtful with pouring rain in the morning. But the dockdogs guys said the dogs were happy to jump rain or shine. And jump they did! The skies cleared shortly after the morning warmups, and the real competition got underway.
Pro and amateur dogs alike competed in Speed Retrieve, Big Air, and Extreme Vertical competitions. This was the first time dockdogs had ever come to Maine, so there were many dogs who had never tried jumping competitively -- and some who had never tried dock jumping at all!
A good time was had by all, and everyone left happy. The Kennel Shop has already agreed to host dockdogs again next year. Be sure to watch our website for more info and a date for the event.
WCSH Channel 6 covered the event and the article from the Portland Press Herald can be found here.
